Research into similar products: Sorority row trailer

Sorority row is an American teen slasher movie released in 2009, its genre is a horror/thriller . its story is that of a prank gone wrong, in the trailer we are introduced to the 6 main characters and see the underline plot of the murder of a girl. the trailer then goes on to see the 5 other girls all distressed in some way this suggests that the murder is the consequence to their distress.

Editing
The trailer starts of with fast pace editing cutting to different beach scenes, this relates to the teen audiences. The editing  then individually cuts and does a close up to the 5 main girl characters, this introduces them and shows their significance to the plot. Another good editing technique used is when there's the scene of two teens on the bed and then it fades to white to link it to the next scene. The trailer includes static interference this is another good technique used to next to the next scene it links with with the video footage which is used to show the clip of the girl and boy together this is striking and catches the audiences attention. After the main scene happens of Megan choking the editing gets a faster pace and keeps cutting to black with text this fast pace fits in as the scene is while their driving and very rushed and panicked. Theres a cross dissolve from the driving scene to the well scene where you can see the car and the new scene then it dissolves this is a useful editing technique as it shows time has past. When Megan has just been stabbed the editing technique negative is used this makes the image stand out and have a more sinister feel to it. After Megan has been stabbed the editing gets faster and cuts to the 5 mains characters, this shows the panic of the characters and makes the audience feel it too. another very useful and rare editing technique used is a silhouette of the well and the 5 girls this makes them and the well stand out which is relevant as the well is the plot of the film and the girls are the main characters and responsible, it shows their power. The beginning also uses silhouettes of characters body’s to show their there but they are used in a different context to show their not important this is shown as they are surrounded by other character that are closer

Camerawork
The first shot we are introduced to on the trailer is a point of view of the party this is effective as its introducing the audience straight into the action as if they were there. There is also an establishing shot this is use full as it shows the audience and introduces them to the whole scene of where they are and whats happening. Then there is a close up of the 5 girls faces this is important as its shows they are important characters and begins to familiarise the audience with them. The next shot is the camera panning down on the house this is important as its the main location it pans down after the fast pace editing to kind of bring it back down to reality.  When Megan is with her boyfriend a two-shot is used this is effective as it focuses on them two and its important as that's the main plot of the film. A low angle shot is used when the well is first introduced making the well stand out and seem intimidating. A high angle shot is used when Megan is laying on the floor and the girls are around her this shows her as vulnerable. Theres a close up on the metal cross this tells the

that its significant. There's another establishing shot and long shot this shows the new scene but also shows how isolated and vulnerable they all are. When they are looking down the well there is a low angle shot used to show it as threatening and deep.

Sound
As the pace gets faster so does the music and shot types, this enables only a glimpse of the film without revealing the ending. This is significant as the audience is attracted to the trailer due to the fact they would want to find out the ending. The first sound we hear is a voice over of the head teacher talking as we cant see her straight away this has a dominant effect as you cant see her but you can hear her. There is a sound mix as you can also hear some quiet non-digetic sound of music this makes the scene more relaxed and it links with the next scene which is a party where the music turns digetic and you can hear ambient sound of the party this makes it sound more realistic and vibrant. As the main plot is revealed of Megan and her boyfriend the main non digetic music starts slowly and lightly, as Megan fits the non digetic music gets louder and increases in speed to show panic. When Megan is out of the car and speaks the non digetic music slows back down to show a calmer setting. When Megan is stabbed there are loud 'dongs' which make the scene striking. At the fast pace editing distorted sounds are used to create tension.

Mise en scene

mise en scene is used well in this trailer as the costume is general 'teen' clothes this means its easier for the target audience to relate and understand the film. The killer is dressed in a black hooded gown this is quite gloomy and mysterious keeping the audience wanting to know who it is. Props such as phones, laptops are used to keep the film realistic and help keep the audience interested and relate them to it. A key prop if the murder weapon is a tire iron which is constantly focused on. The whole lighting of the trailer is dark as its set at night time but this creates a dark, mysterious, unknowing side to the film.

This trailer is aimed at a 'teen' audience and includes many stereotypes, including the female victim, i think this trailer will play a key part in my film as it is aimed at my age i related to it well.I would also like to include a prop that is used throughout the film which creates a sense of danger.
